Appropriate exterior to match a rich interior content
Kölcsey Convention Center, with its 13,000m2 area, is second to none among conference centers in Eastern Hungary. The designer of the center visualized such an ”omniscient” building that can be the perfect ambience for an international conference as well as for a cultural event of any kind. A complex where the individual spaces may be connected or separated at will, while the wide variety of halls of various sizes would satisfy any and all technical demands whatsoever.
The designer’s dream became reality in February 2006, when the construction of the new Kölcsey Convention Center was finally completed, located exactly at the site where once stood the house of the author of the Hungarian national anthem, Ferenc Kölcsey.
Upon entering the building of the center, you notice the ubiquitous presence of glass, wood, and stones, which creates a genuine Scandinavian atmosphere. While the enormous sized windows let the sunlight freely flow in from outside, the ample wood paneling, made of birch, maple and okoumé, radiates a feeling of cleanliness, warmth, and friendliness

Function and Spectate: Coordinated entities
The Grand Hall has featured such renowned artists in concert as András Schiff, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, Andrea Rost, or Cesaria Evora. The Exhibition Hall has already been home for several grand-scale exhibitions of the works of a variety of artists, including János Lestyán Goda, Sándor Győrfi, János Kass, Endre Szász, and Árpád Bényi, as well as for the traveling exhibition of the 100-year-old Museum of Fine Arts, called Rejtett Szépségek [Hidden Beauties], the Hundertwasser and the Hasegawa exhibitions, the MTI Photo Exhibition, the exhibition called (M)érték – világhírű fotográfusok [where the first part is a pun on the words mérték: ’measure’ and érték: ’value’ and the second part means ’world-famous photographers’], and the Press Photo Exhibition.
You could hardly find a better location for a convention or a conference either. The ample spaces that can be fitted to size, the state-of-the-art technical equipment available, the top-quality catering service in a restaurant, a confectionery, and a bar would all justify that you have made the right choice…
Board our glass-walled elevator for a ride, even if not above the clouds but, at least, to the roof garden. Once up there, enjoy an unobstructed panorama of the skyline with the church towers of the city, while sipping at a hot espresso.
