- Debrecen is a university town with international reputation
The university of the city was inaugurated in October 1914. Today Debrecen is not only a regional and national, but also an international centre of education. Several thousands of foreign students choose Debrecen as their educational destination year after year, which hallmarks the traditionally high level of the various trainings and the well-established technical and scientific background supporting the institutional network. The University of Debrecen, one of the largest ones in the country, offers a variety of programs ranging from humanities to natural sciences, from musical education to economic training, from medical to agricultural training. This outstanding system of higher education is further enhanced by the internationally respected medical training for foreign students from all over the world.
- Debrecen is one of the biggest economical centers of Hungary
Debrecen has been the centre of trade and business for centuries and this flourishing and dynamic cooperation of the city and economy rests on a number of different pillars: education and knowledge, economy, local administration, and investors and business partners combine forces to generate a local economy that is defined and established on a regional level and on a high standard of professionalism. As the economic and trade centre of north-eastern Hungary, Debrecen accommodates more than 20% of the enterprises in the region.
This lively city in the heart of the Carpathian Basin offers its visitors a cornucopia of programs and events, including a number of excellent art exhibitions, folk programs, and countless sports and leisure events.
Debrecen is the city of festivals and concerts; thousands and thousands of people visit the city for the Flower Festival, the International Festival of Military Bands, the Debrecen Jazz Festival, the Poetry Festival, Summer and Autumn Festivals, or the Debrecen Turkey Festival and the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition. The sheer number of concerts and performances of music groups and choirs -be it classical or light music - are obvious indications of the flourishing musical life of the city, offering their various programs day after day for the citizens and the tourists alike.
This culturally active life is combined with a splendid leisure and wellness sphere as well: the charming Zoo in the centre of the romantic Great Forest, which is the country's first nature conservation area, offers a great time for the whole family, while the Aquaticum Wellness and Spa Resort provides exclusive health treatments and wellness care programs for the visitors, as Debrecen is one of the largest centers of mineral thermal water in Europe.

LOCATION, ACCESSIBILITY
Debrecen is situated in the eastern part of Central Europe. It is the second largest city of Hungary, situated in the eastern part of Hungary.
By car:
From Budapest, take the M3 and M35 motorway (2 hours). At the same time, other regional centers can be reached, such as Miskolc and Nyíregyháza - and through them Slovakia and Ukraine - on highways M35 and M3, or M30. Debrecen is also a gateway to Romania, which you can reach directly on Rt 47 towards the border town of Ártánd, in 45 minutes.
By train:
Debrecen lies on one of the most important railway line between Budapest and Záhony, which is one of the most developed railway junctions of the country. This provides the systematic and effective national and international railway transportation. Inter City trains (fewer stops, shorter duration of travel - 2.5 hours, higher speed, and greater comfort) run almost every hour to and from Budapest, and they stop at the Ferihegy International Airport as well.
By air:
Since 2004 Debrecen has had its own international airport with its own permanent border and customs check. As a result, the airport can receive and serve all types of airplanes, and it is in the direct neighborhood of the city, so it is in quite easy reach.
Debrecen can be reached by air indirectly via Budapest-Ferihegy (BUD) International Airport, which serves a great number of international airlines and is about 2 hours' driving distance from Debrecen, or 2.5 hours by train.
